When do registration dates open and what is process? Registration typically opens in November for the upcoming summer season. Annually, there is publicized open enrollment period, where all camper applications are available for registration. We typically fill up during this period. All applications will be reviewed and once accepted, the camper acceptance packet with all required forms will be sent out for completion by a deadline to hold your spot at camp. Who do you accept? We welcome campers diagnosed with Celiac Disease and/or Gluten Intolerance and their siblings. Campers accepted are ages 7-17, with programs designed for different age groups to ensure age-appropriate activities and supervision.
Do you offer financial assistance? Yes, we offer need-based scholarships. Please email us with how much toward the camper fee you can afford to pay and please explain your financial situation and need.
Health & Safety What medical care is available at camp? We have licensed nurses on-site 24/7 who are overseen by our medical director. Our health center is equipped to handle minor injuries and illnesses. Parent/Guardian must be able to pick up child if medically necessary deemed by our medical team. We also have a camper support team who are at camp to give further support as needed to campers.
Can my child bring medications? All medications must be brought to camp in the required medicine/pill organizer (link will be provided) with all the appropriate forms filled in and the original containers brought to camp. All meds even over-the-counter-medications will be stored and administered by our medical staff.
What is your policy for campers with special dietary needs? Our kitchen staff can accommodate most dietary restrictions including food allergies, vegetarian, vegan that you notify us of in your required camper packet. There is no gluten or nuts served at Camp Weekaneatit.
Daily Life at Camp What should my child pack? A detailed packing list will be provided approximately one month prior to camp. Generally, campers should bring casual clothing, swimwear, toiletries, sunscreen, and any personal items that provide comfort.
How do cabin assignments work? Cabin assignments are made based on age, session dates, and gender identity to ensure all campers feel comfortable and safe. We work with families to ensure appropriate placement for every camper. All campers and staff are expected to use each person's preferred name and pronouns as part of creating a respectful and inclusive environment. Cabin mate requests are only honored if the campers are in same age/grade level and are not guaranteed.
Activities & Programs What activities are available? Our program includes swimming, hiking, arts and crafts, sports, campfires, talent shows, nature exploration, team building, adventure activities, water sports, biking…
Do you offer specialized programs? Yes, we offer focused sessions for specific interests like outdoor adventure, performing arts, STEM exploration, and leadership development for older campers.
Are activities mandatory? While we encourage participation in all activities, we understand each camper is unique. Our staff works with individuals to find activities they enjoy and feel comfortable joining.
What happens on rainy days? We have plenty of indoor activities including large group games, team building, arts and crafts, games, movies, and indoor sports facilities to keep campers engaged regardless of weather.
Policies & Procedures What is your discipline policy? We use positive reinforcement and natural consequences. Serious behavioral issues are addressed through our progressive discipline policy, with parent contact and required picking up child only when necessary.
Who are your counselors? We seek out volunteers who wish to be counselors and have experience working with kids, looking for great experience to add to resumes, are in college or have an interest in a related degree (education, psychology, social work, special ed, nutrition, medical…), have had camp experience, are caring, hardworking, organized individuals with leadership skills. We do not accept parents of current campers as volunteers. Volunteers are screened, interviewed, background checks are conducted and mandatory training is required. What about homesickness? Homesickness is normal and our Camper Support team and trained counselors are experienced in helping campers through this adjustment. We work closely with families to support campers through this common experience.
How do you handle emergencies? We have comprehensive emergency procedures for weather, medical situations, and other contingencies. Parents will be contacted immediately in case of any serious incident involving their child.
